pencilled people

Some recent pencil drawings. Trying to dabble with digital colouring, seeing as my sketchbook paper is too thin to paint on and will just warp too insanely for me to be able to scan.
some paintings are on the way too! My hands are really cooperating with my brain this week.

Frankie + me.

Today the postman dropped off something rather exciting. not overdue library book notices, nor bank statements... but the newest issue of Frankie magazine.
And the reason i met today's parcel with such excitement (and fluttering hands and heart) is because this issue, (number 35) features a poster print of my lady Cybele Bertrand. Centrefold glory!
So, if you feel like adopting Cybele and hanging her up in your home, there you go. I hope she keeps you good company. She's tucked into the middle, next to some vintage caravans.

actually, its's slighty (very) surreal. back when i was in highschool, i had frankie posters on my walls myself. so, this is hard to process.

In other news:
. pumpkin scones = best ever. There hasn't been a working oven in this house for something like two years and now we finally have one, all i can dream about is roasted potatoes and lemon meringue pie.
. portraits on canvas. time to try working a little bit differently! I haven't attempted any work on canvas for about 12 months.
. mermaid tails. Did you ever read the version of the little mermaid where she flung herself overboard and turned into seafoam? suicidal sea lady.
. on a mountain holiday i found a book signed and written by Lauren Bacall. babe-o-rama.

Constellations: a large number of small drawings

Constellations

I'm really happy to be a part of Constellations, an exhibition of drawings being held at Melbourne's prestigious design school RMIT. Showcasing drawings that span the fields of Music, Architecture, Art, Cartography, Design, Fashion, Textiles, Film, Photography and Science, Constellations explores the role of drawing in today's society and celebrates the many different ways that pencil and paper can be utilised.
My polka dotted lass will be hanging around (on the wall), so if you want to meet her, please do pop in. I'm sure there will be a delightful visual feast to keep your eyes entranced.

Constellations: a large number of small drawings.
8th of April till 26th of June, 2010.

March Paintings

Clarisse
Clarisse.
I Imagine she is in the parlour room of a continental steamship.
At 7pm, her secret lover will arrive. In the meantime, full of anticipation and also seasickness, she chews on the stem of a velvety pink rose.

Sophie
Maiden Voyage
Caught by surprise in a dimly lit room.

She
The Youngest Lady In Waiting.
You'll always be a little girl.
The first large painting i've done in years. A3 in size.
The opalescent polka dots and accents glow purple but scan a kind of murky green/grey.
